The movie was produced under the working title of “Fox Force Five” which was actually the name of a fictional television show that was shown as an unfinished pilot in Pulp Fiction (1994)
In the movie, Ewan McGregor is cast as Black Mask, Sharlto Copley and Sam Rockwell were approached to play Black Mask. Both of them passed on the role and it went to Ewan McGregor
In the comics, none of Cassandra Cain or Renee Montoya were members of the Birds of Prey. Even Harley Quinn was added to the squad during the Rebirth era in Oct 2019

The Plot
The movie is set after the events of Suicide Squad, Harley Quinn has left the Joker. When Roman Sionis, a crazy crime lord known as Black Mask, places a hit on Cassandra Cain, Gotham City turns upside down looking for her. Harley Quinn takes it upon herself and assembles a team that consists of Black Canary, Helena Bertinelli, and Renee Montoya to protect the girl and to take Sionis down.
